 Highland has developed a patented oral drug delivery system. The ConSeal™ system eliminates drug related tastes and odors while suspending active ingredients in a soft, flavored and highly palatable chewable. Companion animals eagerly accept ConSeal formulated active ingredients, improving pet compliance and convenience for pet owners.
All ingredients in the ConSeal system are Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) and no animal by-products are required. Any active ingredient can be formulated into the system. Tablet size, shape, flavor, color, odor and texture are selected to maximize appeal to the intended species.
ConSeal formulations of several generic active ingredients have been developed to demonstrate the technology. Palatability studies have demonstrated acceptance scores ranging up to 98% for dogs and horses and 88% for cats. Pharmacokinetic studies have shown bioequivalence to pioneer drugs.
Market research conducted with pet owners and veterinarians has clearly shown the need for a drug delivery system that pets will eagerly consume. ConSeal eliminates the need to hide medicines in food or deal with messy pastes.
Highland has experience with the following active ingredients: breath fresheners, carprofen, chondroitin, digestive enzymes, enalapril, etodolac, fenbendazole, fluoxetine, furosemide, glucosamine, ivermectin, levothyroxine, minerals, phenylbutazone, phenylpropanolamine, praziquantel, prednisolone, proteins, pyrantel and vitamins.
